Physical Therapist - Orthopedic Clinical Specialist
When Sherrie graduated from California State University, Long Beach with a Bachelor of Science in Physical Therapy in 1986, she began her career at Long Beach Memorial Hospital. This experience gave her a diverse opportunity to help patients with burn care, spinal cord injuries general medical diagnoses, and finally orthopedics, and the treatments of painful ailments.
Career Highlights: Certified as a McKenzie Spinal Specialist McConnell Seminar instructor teaching physical therapists the treatment of anterior knee pain stemming from the knee cap (patellofemoral) joint Board Certified as an Orthopedic Clinical Specialist (the highest award earned in our profession as a specific specialist) Over 600 hours of continuing education (enhanced each year with new coursework) |
Sherrie subsequently focused her learning an experience at various outpatient clinics.
She also had a unique opportunity to travel for a year to the Midwest and South with a very large national mobile physical therapy company. Upon returning, Sherrie had the unique experience of working for Pacific Therapies, where her clinical skills would be matched with her developing managerial skills.
While in charge of a private practice and two assisted living centers in Huntington Beach/Newport Beach, Sherrie met her current business partner, Sandra Reade. The Birth of Huntington Beach Physical Therapy Specialists came out of the necessity to maintain the high quality, hands-on and very involved style of patient care which has continued to flourish for the past 10 years.
In the past four years, Sherrie has also enjoyed a new specialty in treating women with incontinece problems and pelvic pain. "This has been exiting to affect, not only for those in pain, but also those who have been suffering silently for many years before seeking life-changing strategies and treatment."
When asked, Sherrie comments, "I think my greatest asset to my patients - besides my extensive experience and education - is that no problem seems too small or complex to me. Treatment needs to include lifestyle changes, stress management, and ways to improve overall health. And lastly, I'm an excellent listener, which is something that is being lost in the healthcare profession."
Sherrie balances her life between her work, ownership of a business, family, children and playing of soccer in a competitive women's league.
